Bio

From Toronto, Ontario, Suburban Sunrise’s music can best be described as “a reggae-dub-rock, west coast vibe – with the diversity of Toronto.”

Sticking to the DIY work ethic of the new music industry while holding a vision of a Motown-like family approach to music creation, Suburban Sunrise front man Mike Cavano (Guitar, Vocals) built a studio and small management/production team for the band and other like minded musicians and artists and in 2009, launched a record label called Inity Arts & Music. With this home base established, Mike started working with long time Suburban Sunrise drummer Kelvin Vadera on some new material, later adding AJ Harper on bass.

The group set up a mini tour of Ontario/Quebec for fall 2010 in anticipation of a late 2010 / early 2011 release of a two part EP; one half acoustic, one half electric. This release, entitled “Unplugged and Unemployed / Pogey Paid For My Amp” contains a range of reggae/folk flavored tunes from “We’ll Sing”, a Spanish influenced love song, to “Unplugged & Unemployed”, a social message about corporate elitists’ distance from spiritual truths.

With influences from Bob Marley to Sublime, Jimi Hendrix to Weezer, Marvin Gaye to k-os, Suburban Sunrise create a diverse blend of groove and raw energy that carries vibes from many generations without being limited to the sound of any one. Suburban Sunrise’s diverse appeal is further exemplified by the other artists they’ve played with, including local greats U.S.S., Blues Underdog and Hello Beautiful.

Suburban Sunrise’s coming EP and Ontario tour, coupled with the upcoming work with Inity Arts & Music label signee Miiza Rebel, are the first steps towards a vision of national and international tour dates, college and commercial radio airplay, and a family collective of artists and producers – that, and permanent release from passionless day jobs!
